At International Opticians in Miami, our two doctors of optometry, Dr. Saba H. Millares and Dr. Maria Gonzalez recommend patients schedule at least an annual eye exam to evaluate eye health and visual acuity; though some patients might require more frequent examinations due to current eye health, medical history, or their family's health history.
Routine eye exams are an integral part of your overall health; eyes are not only the windows to the soul but also to your body's internal health. During a routine eye exam, an optometrist evaluates not only a patient's visual acuity but also the health and function of the eyes and their internal structures. The state of the eyes often indicates good health or health issues elsewhere in the body, such as diabetes or high blood pressure. As with other physical conditions and diseases, early detection of eye health problems is often the key to successful diagnosis and treatment. Many eye conditions associated with children and even with adults can be successfully prevented or treated as long as they are detected in early stages of development.
During a routine eye exam, you can expect our optometrist to discuss your medical history, current symptoms, and current prescription medications you are taking; constructing a clear picture of your current medical state will help our optometrist to evaluate the health of your eyes. Using a series of tests, our eye doctor will inspect and evaluate your visual acuity (ability to see) to determine your corrective lens prescription, as well as the health and function of your eyes' external and internal physical structures.
A complete routine eye exam can take about an hour to complete. If you intend to use contact lenses, rather than eyeglasses, to correct your vision, please let our office know when scheduling your appointment. Contact lens evaluations require a little more time during a routine eye exam for our optometrist to measure and evaluate your eyes for proper contact lens fitting.
At International Opticians in Miami, our optometrists not only provide high-quality care with more than 60 years of experience practicing optometry between them, but they also provide the convenience of in-office eyeglasses fittings and consultations for men, women, and children.
